Luxury Holidays in Mauritius

Luxury Holidays in Mauritius

An island of tranquil shores and lush green fauna draping the backdrop of mountains. We guarantee you will fall in love with this beautiful island in the Indian Ocean, a cocktail of white sandy beaches, beautiful lagoons with deep rooted culture and heritage make the ideal paradise.

A truly enchanting island and if lazing on shores gets too much, why not explore the island and its diverse landscape.  Mauritius has so much more to offer, from the thundering cascades of Chamarel Falls, the awe-inspiring Seven Coloured Earths to the dense tropical forests and mountains to hike.

Not forgetting of course that Mauritius is also a golfers’ paradise.  One of the ultimate destinations in the world for many whether you are an amateur or pro.  There are many championship courses to choose from, all designed by leading professional golfers.

Mauritius may not naturally come to mind when you think of diving destinations, in comparison to its Australian and Maldivian counterparts, however with its crystal clear water and brightly coloured marine life it really is a magnificent diving destination.

“Mauritius had been calling my name for a while, and I finally had the chance to answer. I flew out to this stunning Indian Ocean island on what turned out to be the most incredible trip – a blend of luxury, discovery, and some seriously beautiful hotels. As a travel expert, I love experiencing these places first-hand. And trust me, this trip gave me plenty to shout about.

I was lucky enough to stay at Sugar Beach, a five-star resort that completely stole my heart. This hotel is all about timeless elegance – think grand colonial architecture, manicured lawns leading to the beach, and an atmosphere that invites you to slow down and unwind. It’s the kind of place where service is seamless and every detail feels carefully considered. I loved my evenings spent at Buddha Beach Bar, sipping cocktails to the sound of the waves, and the spa was a haven of peace. Sugar Beach truly is a luxury escape in every sense.

Next, I explored Long Beach, and the contrast was immediate – in the best way. This resort has a much more modern, vibrant energy. It’s sleek, stylish, and totally chic, with a contemporary design and a buzz that’s ideal for couples or groups looking for a cool beachfront vibe. The restaurants are fantastic, offering a real mix of international cuisine, and the pool scene here is perfect for laid-back lounging. There’s a real sense of space and openness, with direct beach access and expansive grounds that never feel crowded.

I also visited La Pirogue, which is located just next to Sugar Beach, and it’s a real gem for families. The thatched-roof bungalows have a lovely rustic charm, spread out in lush tropical gardens, giving it the feel of a sleepy fishing village – but with all the comforts of a high-end resort. The vibe is relaxed, quiet, and welcoming. It’s perfect for families, with great kids’ facilities, open lawns, and live music in the evenings creating a lovely atmosphere for all ages. I could easily picture families making lasting memories here.

What struck me most is how each of these resorts has its own distinct charm and allure – there really is something for everyone. Whether you’re after refined luxury, modern beachside cool, or laid-back family time, you’ll find your perfect fit in Mauritius.

And let’s not forget the island itself. Mauritius is an amazing year-round destination. It’s ideal for winter sun, but the east and west coasts offer great weather across different seasons – so there’s always a sunny corner waiting to welcome you. Beyond the beach, the island is rich with experiences: spa indulgence, snorkelling and diving, paddle boarding, and immersive cultural activities – you can make your trip as relaxing or as adventurous as you like.

One of the real highlights for me was visiting the famous Île aux Cerfs Golf Course. Designed by Bernhard Langer, this championship course is located on its own private island just off the east coast. It’s consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful in the world, with stunning ocean views from almost every hole. It’s easily accessible from Long Beach and Sugar Beach, making it a must-visit for any golf lovers heading to Mauritius.

All in all, this trip reminded me just how special Mauritius is. It’s more than just a beach destination – it’s a place where nature, luxury, and hospitality come together seamlessly. Whether you’re a couple seeking romance, a family looking to reconnect, or simply in need of sunshine and serenity, Mauritius truly delivers.” ~ Lucie

” When your job involves “testing” luxury resorts in paradise… well, someone has to do it, right?

My daughter Izzy (aged 11 and full of curiosity) and I jetted off to the Indian Ocean to explore something truly special: the Beachcomber Hotels in Mauritius. As a family-run travel company, we believe there’s no better way to recommend a holiday than by experiencing it ourselves and what a journey it was!

From the moment we touched down, Mauritius wrapped us in its warm, tropical charm, think lush green landscapes, impossibly blue waters, and a gentle island pace that makes you instantly unwind.

Izzy was hooked from the get-go, spotting geckos, palm trees, and her first beach sunset within an hour of arriving. Her rating of the hotel welcome drink? “10 out of 10 – and I’d like another.” A budding travel critic in the making!

We explored several Beachcomber resorts, each with its own personality, but all effortlessly stylish and welcoming. From the relaxed elegance of Trou aux Biches to the jaw-dropping setting of Paradis Beachcomber beneath the iconic Le Morne mountain, we felt spoiled for choice.

But what really stood out? The genuine warmth from the staff. From remembering our names (and Izzy’s favourite mocktail) to arranging thoughtful little surprises, every moment felt personal.

Of course, we couldn’t visit Mauritius without heading inland for a bit of adventure and wow, did Vallée des Couleurs Nature Park deliver!

We zip-lined across ravines with the rainforest canopy beneath us (Izzy absolutely loved it – I screamed just a bit), met ancient giant tortoises, and even jumped in a buggy ride through muddy mountain trails. It was a thrill from start to finish and a brilliant way to see a different side of the island.

On a slightly calmer note, we also visited the Odysseo Oceanarium in Port Louis and it was absolutely enchanting.

With over 200 species to discover, huge tanks filled with colourful reef fish, and even a walk-through tunnel surrounded by sharks and rays, it was a brilliant half-day trip. Educational and mesmerising, perfect if you want a break from the beach or have little ones who are curious about the sea.

This trip reminded me that Mauritius is so much more than just a beach destination. It’s the friendly people. The mix of culture and nature. The way adventure and relaxation sit side by side.

And Beachcomber? It’s the perfect host. Whether you’re honeymooning, holidaying as a couple, or travelling with children of all ages, this is the kind of place where lasting memories are made.

When your 11-year-old says, “Mum, I never want to leave,” you know you’ve found somewhere special.” ~ Amy
