“ If there’s one place in California that I hold close to my heart, it’s Orange County. Sure, Los Angeles has its bright lights and bustling vibe, but Orange County offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, adventure, and unforgettable experiences. From world-class theme parks to hidden gems and breathtaking outdoor escapes, here’s why Orange County has my heart and why it should be at the top of your travel list too.

No trip to Orange County is complete without a visit to Disneyland in Anaheim. Whether you’re a child or just a child at heart, Disneyland is pure magic. It’s more than just a theme park—it’s a place where cherished memories are made, from riding Space Mountain to enjoying the nightly fireworks. Even after many visits, Disneyland never loses its charm. And if you’re into thrill rides, don’t forget to check out Disney California Adventure Park next door that has an incredible water and light show. It was the first Disney that was ever built and in my opinion, remains one of the best. 

After a day at Disney, you may want to slow things down, take a stroll along the iconic trails at Laguna Beach. One of my favorite walks is the Heisler Park trail, where you will experience stunning views of the rugged coastline, crashing waves, and the sparkling Pacific Ocean. You’ll find a vibrant art scene here, with people painting along the coast, hidden coves and tide pools, and some beautiful local shops, including a whole foods that sells the best slices of Pizza and a world famous gelato store.

Orange County’s beaches are something special, and San Clemente is a prime example of why. The laid-back surfer vibe, coupled with the Spanish-style architecture and relaxed atmosphere, make this town a favorite of mine. Whether you’re catching waves or simply lounging on the sand, San Clemente offers the ultimate beach experience. And nearby, Doheny State Beach in Dana Point offers calm waters perfect for swimming, paddle-boarding, or just unwinding with a picnic on the shore.

Orange County isn’t just about beaches—head inland, and you’ll find the adventure-filled mountains of Big Bear Lake. In the winter, it’s a snowy paradise for skiing and snowboarding, while summer brings endless opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and water-sports. Make sure to take some trainers and complete one of the hikes as the views are without a doubt worth it, before heading back into town for a cold drink and some live music. The scenic drive up the mountain alone is worth the trip!

While I mentioned Disneyland earlier and it often steals the spotlight, Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park is a hidden gem for thrill-seekers and families alike if they want something a little different and on the cheaper side. This charming theme park, with its mix of heart-pounding roller coasters and old-timey western attractions, has something for everyone. Plus, the adjacent Knott’s Soak City water park is perfect for cooling off on a hot day.

But there’s more to Orange County than theme parks. If you’re a sports fan, you can catch a baseball game with the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium or watch the Anaheim Ducks glide on the ice at Honda Center during hockey season. The energy at these games is electric, and it’s a fun way to get a taste of local culture.

What truly sets Orange County apart is its incredible diversity of experiences. In a single day, you can ride roller coasters, hike through coastal bluffs, surf at a world-class beach, people watch at Balboa and then relax in a mountain cabin. Whether you’re an adventurer, a beach bum, a foodie, or a thrill-seeker, Orange County has something for everyone.
