Luxury Holidays in the Maldives
Luxury Holidays in The Maldives
Cast adrift in the Indian Ocean about a thousand miles from the Indian mainland, the Maldives consists of 1,192 islands, most of them made of coral.
If you want amazing white-sand beaches and incredible underwater photography then a holiday to the Maldives is for you. The Maldives make for the perfect place to find your own little piece of self-isolation under the most glorious sun.
Tourism is the main source of income for the Maldives providing essential work for local people. Its turquoise seas have made the myriad of islands into some of the world’s water sport hubs. The white-sand beaches have lent themselves naturally to creating the perfect location for some of the most exclusive resorts in the world, as well as plenty for people on a more modest budget. The Maldives also make the perfect destination for a special occasion, such as an anniversary or perhaps a honeymoon.
Why we love the Maldives!
“Year on year, the Maldives has been voted the World’s leading destination, so I had a lot of expectations leading into this trip. Having previously visited the Seychelle’s and Mauritius, I was eager to tick off the ‘Indian Ocean’ and boy the Maldives did not disappoint. Arriving at Male is like organised chaos, there are hotel reps and passengers everywhere, but the reps are so efficient into getting you onto your next mode of transport, being that Seaplane or Speedboat. We were getting the Seaplane to our first island, and being an aviation geek, this was probably the most exciting part of the whole trip. From Male, you are checked in for your Seaplane and then driven to the terminal of where you can relax in your relevant hotel lounge until you are called. I spent most of the time on the balcony watching all the Seaplanes departing and arriving. Trans Maldivian Airways has the largest fleet of Seaplanes in the world, and they’re taking off and landing every 5 minutes.
From here it was a quick 45 minute flight to our island, with the most incredible birds eye view of the Atolls and islands below you. Transportation to and from the airport to the hotels is seamless, and the Maldivians have created a well-oiled machine.
The Maldives was everything I thought it would be and more. Complete and utter paradise!
We stayed in 5 gorgeous hotels, each with their own quirks and personality. I was amazed as to just how quite the islands are, and the fact that most days I was the only person on the beach. It makes you feel like you have your own private island, with the most beautiful and attentive staff who are there for your every beckon call. Think powder white sand, crystal clear water and then double it. And that still won’t come close to how beautiful these islands really are.
The one thing I loved the most was the marine life. I have been to some amazing places around the world, but I have never seen anything like I did in the Maldives. Just as we are arrived and were walking down the jetty to the island, I saw a Black Tipped Reef Shark, the first of many as they literally are everywhere. Then popped up a turtle, an eagle ray, Manta Ray’s. A selection of the most colourful fish from Angel Fish, Triggers, Parrott Fish and lastly Dolphins everywhere. If you love all things water based, then the Maldives really is the perfect place.
One perception I always hear about the Maldives is ‘there isn’t much to do’ and ‘I’d get bored’. Well I am here to say this really does depend on the island you stay on, and if you get the right island then you can find a lot to do. I’ve gone into more details on the 5 islands i visited below, and hopefully we can inspire you to book your dream holiday to the Maldives.” ~ Josie
