Border System Updates
Big changes at EU borders from October 2025!
Travelling to Europe will soon look a little different. The EU is introducing the new Entry/Exit System (EES), which replaces passport stamping with biometric checks (fingerprints + a quick photo).
Here’s what you need to know:
🔹 Starts 12 October 2025 (phased rollout)
🔹 Applies to most EU countries (not Ireland or Cyprus)
🔹 UK travellers = full registration on your first trip, faster crossings after
🔹 Kids under 12 don’t need fingerprints
🔹 Expect queues at the start – things will smooth out over time
🚢 Cruise travellers:
🔹UK departures – no checks when boarding
🔹EU departures – you’ll register at your first port
🔹UK to EU cruises – checks when disembarking
Our tip: Build in extra time for your journey, especially this autumn/winter, and let us guide you through the changes. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
