Whether it’s getting up close to tigers, attending festivals or avoiding the rainy season, you can find the perfect place to visit no matter when you want to travel.
Rather than Dry January, why not try Hot January and treat yourself to some winter sun or visit France for some après skiing.
Few can match Costa Rica in February. Hit up the beaches of the Pacific or the Caribbean coasts, go hiking in the rainforests, explore the exotic wildlife, or summit a volcano. With a beach for every day of the year, you’ll be sure to find one to suit on the small island of Antigua. Mexico is fantastic whether you’re looking for beach, adventure or ancient ruins and traditions.
March is a great time to relax on the pink sands of Bermuda’s beaches while sipping a Rum Swizzle cocktail. While March is the start of Sabah’s dry season in Malaysian Borneo making it easier to spot orangutans in their natural habitat. Or celebrating India’s Holi Festival of colours.
May is the perfect time to take a Bosphorus Cruise in Turkey where you can go from Eminönü all the way to the Black Sea, and back. Alternatively, May allows you to visit Sicily’s beaches without navigating jam-packed crowds and still enjoy the pleasant weather.
Mykonos is the place to be seen in June where you can dance the night away at Cavo Paradiso and relax during the day at one of the best-preserved and most important archaeological sites in Greece. If you love sea-life then June is a great month for you where you can travel to Vancouver Island in Canada for whale-spotting or visit the Galapagos Islands where you can also enjoy a spot of birdwatching.
July is a good month for kite surfing and surfing in Mauritius or visit Cabrera in the Balearic Islands, a national park since 1991, this uninhabited island attracts an abundance of wildlife, where you can dive with turtles, whales, dolphins and 200 types of fish. Bali gives you the chance to explore the diverse landscape, culture and history along with beautiful beaches.
August is the end of Croatia’s Summer season. The weather is perfect for festivals, beach days, and sailing adventures. Kenya is popular in August due to the weather being warm and dry making it an ideal time to visit Maasai Mara and watch the Great Wildebeest Migration or take a dip in a volcanic pool in Madeira.
The end of game viewing season in South Africa, makes September the ideal month to visit, avoiding the crowds while still seeing the Big Five. Visiting the golden rice fields in Vietnam is a must if you want to take photographs of the awe-inspiring landscapes. Venice is a great place to visit this time of year because of Regatta Storia, the historic boat race starts on the first Sunday of the month where you can watch parades followed by groups of wooden boats go head to head in a canal race.
October is the end of the monsoon season in India. With fewer crowds, this is a great month to visit the attractions of the Golden Triangle. or visit New England to see the iconic foliage, enjoy fresh hot cider doughnuts and get lost in The Great Vermont Corn Maze or go to the vineyard-covered slopes in Douro Valley in Portugal, the birthplace of Port.
With the start of the dry season, November is a great time to see whale sharks and manta rays in the Maldives or if you’re after something closer to home, November is a great month to enjoy the Canary Islands without the tourists, while the dark winter nights make ideal conditions for viewing the Northern Lights in Finland or Norway.
New York in December is packed full of ‘bucket list’ items, from crossing the Brooklyn Bridge to taking to the ice at the Rockefeller Centre, it truly is a Winter Wonderland or visit Lapland in December which pulls out all the stops over the festive period – from sleigh rides to magical meetings with Santa. Otherwise you can treat yourself to some winter sun as Barbados is great this time of year with up to nine hours of sunshine.
