The hotel gently cascades down a hillside, but the usual inconveniences of an elevated property don’t apply here – there’s a glass lift that takes guests down to the long private white-pebble beach, which looks out to a national monument and has a wooden deck with loungers and parasols. The Isola Beach Club is a cool spot set among olive trees, with a DJ and top mixologists. Blue Palace is known for its à la carte dining. Join in a unique ritual, the Cretan feast; large bonfires are lit at the private beach for the cooking of the famous “antikristo” lamb – sprinkled in sea salt and slowly cooked for five hours above the fire – while authentic local delicacies will be prepared on the spot. All of these festivities accompanied by the distinct tunes of Cretan lyra.
