Six Senses Laamu, Maldives

An atoll utopia

Introduction

Could this be your idyllic palm-fringed paradise? It’s the only resort on the remote Laamu Atoll in the southern Maldives yet just a short inter-island flight and boat hop away. On-land and over-water villas, dolphins playing in the warm sapphire seas and restaurants serving mouthwatering East-West cuisine create an exceptional, natural nirvana at Six Senses Maldives Resort.

The almost untouched beach offers the pristine backdrop for a pleasurable stroll or sunbathing session, whilst the water sports centre presents a great range of exciting or relaxing water-based pursuits to suit your taste. The fantastic dive centre presents diving certification options or simply facilitates wonderful explorations of some of the world’s most spectacular reefs, perhaps in the company of the resort’s resident marine biologist, on hand to advice you on the abundant marine life you will encounter.

Six-Senses Sustainability Philosophy

Sustainability is at the heart of Six-Senses decisions and actions. By being responsible today, they ensure that the unique environments, cultures and experiences they share with their guests will be experienced for generations to come. They not only respect their guests and hosts, but also the local communities and ecosystems around them too.

They will warmly invite you to join a Sustainability Tour to see innovation and experimentation in action at the Earth Lab, the hub for self-sufficiency and zero waste, as they aim to produce more onsite and reduce emissions from long-distance transport.

Underwater – The Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) is made up of resort marine biologists and three partners, the Manta Trust, Blue Marine Foundation and the Olive Ridley Project. The MUI team pursues marine conservation goals, through research, guest education and community outreach, with the overarching aim of protecting Laamu’s natural resources. This approach of collaboration and knowledge sharing, funded by the resort’s Sustainability Fund, has continuously proven successful in not only driving change and inspiring others.

On land – The team in Laamu are striving to leave a legacy; committed to leaving this beautiful and unique part of the Maldives better than how they found it. They achieve this through having a positive impact on the local community and giving back in the form of education, development, and service.

Plactic free Laamu Atoll – Some of the ways they reduce waste include encouraging suppliers to reduce packaging when delivering supplies and ordering in bulk whenever possible, banning single-use plastics and recycling all organic waste for mulching and converting to organic garden soil. Six-Senses Laamu is one of only three hotels in the world that makes its own artisan chocolate, thus allowing them to eliminate all packaging. The same goes for microgreens, mushrooms and many types of vegetables, which they produce onsite.
