Highlights
~ The location puts you within a few minutes’ walk of the river and city centre, and of Andrássy út in the other direction.
~ The building was constructed in 1897 as a meeting place for freemasons, and this history inspires the magic-and-mystery themed décor. Video screens set in picture frames give the illusion that portrait subjects are moving on their canvases, and there’s a snug containing books by Dan Brown. The hotel’s beating heart is the Great Hall, whose barrel-vaulted ceiling has been faithfully restored; it now serves as a restaurant, lounge and lobby.
~ The Secret Garden Day Spa – heavy with leafy plants – fills what was once the building’s central courtyard, and has an atmospheric main pool with a gushing fountain, two treatment rooms, and a gym.
~ The Great Hall Restaurant and Lounge has sofas at the centre and dining tables around them. The restaurant is a casual-dining bistro serving international and Hungarian dishes on a menu that changes seasonally.
