5* Margaritaville St Somewhere - Holbox Island

About 30 metres back from the stunning and relatively untouched Playa Punta Coco on the western tip of Isla Holbox sits the Margaritaville St Somewhere. Holbox is a bit of a hidden Yucatan gem, and this 39-suite hotel is a bit of a jewel itself. The vibe here is nautical chic, with a lighthouse at the heart of the resort, white-washed buildings and timber the colour of seawater-bleached driftwood. It’s light, it’s breezy and it’s cool. It’s simply a spot to enjoy sun kissed days on the beach or by the pool, join a friendly game of beach volleyball, learn how to create flavour-filled local dishes during a cooking class or head out on or under the waves.

There are a couple of restaurants on site, each with a bar where refreshing signature cocktails are served up. First up there’s The Harbour House which overlooks St Somewhere’s tropical grounds towards Playa Punta Coco. It’s open daily for a continental breakfast and dinner, and seasonally at lunch time. Over at The Sand Bar it’s all about sea views, signature cocktails and sharing plates during the daytime, and there’s always the day’s fresh catch to choose from.

The suites continue the coastal-chic style with driftwood toned beams and furniture, soft white furnishings and splashes of blue of varying tones. There are The Cozy One Suites which have either a king size bed or two queen beds and the Ocean Barefoot Suite which as the name suggests have sea views. Well worth the upgrade are the Island Swim Out Suites which are on the ground floor and have direct access to a shared swimming pool, and the Holbox Plunge Pool Suite with sliding doors that open straight out to a private plunge pool.
