10 Night Rivieras & Yacht Harbours Voyage

Azamara Onward...

This voyage begins in Rome, so arrive early and take in all the Eternal City has to offer before setting sail for an abundance of Italian riches with a late night in Portovenere, Italy. Stroll along winding cobblestone streets to San Pietro Church, which sits upon a site that’s believed to have once been a temple to Venus, or Venere in Italian—where Portovenere got its name. Then, it’s onto Santa Margherita, where you’ll lose yourself in the scenic city and its stunning 16th century fortress. From here, take a tour of picture-perfect Portofino.

High rollers will thrive during our late night in Monte Carlo, as will those who appreciate an opulent atmosphere. Next, it’s onto France with a day in the beach lover’s paradise of St. Tropez. We continue on with a late night in Marseille to wander the charming labyrinth of narrow lanes and interesting shops in La Panier, the city’s oldest neighborhood. Soak up the sun with a late-night stay in Sanary-sur-Mer, arguably the sunniest place in France. Stroll along the palm-lined harbor and admire the view from the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Pitié, built in 1560. In Sète, take a walk along the canals of “the Venice of Languedoc” and settle in for a locally sourced seafood meal.

The Spanish leg of your journey begins with a late night in Palamós, a city in the heart of the Costa Brava. From here consider a trip to Figueres, home of Castle of Púbolto, the museum of its famous and eccentric native son, Salvador Dali. We visit Barcelona for our final port of call. With so much to see and do, we stay overnight here, giving you plenty of time to explore the gorgeous architecture and vibrant culture of this Gothic city.

Always enchanting, the Eternal City will captivate you—no matter how many times you visit. Walk in the steps of gladiators at the Coliseum, channel your inner statesman at the Forum, or gaze up in wonder at Michelangelo’s masterwork at St. Peter’s Basilica. Pasta and vino are a must, and there are plenty of places to relax and refuel after a day of exploration.

When you picture classic Italian romance, the setting could be Portovenere. Stroll along winding cobblestone streets to San Pietro Church, which sits upon a site that’s believed to have once been a temple to Venus. And be sure to visit Grotta Dell’Arpaia, where poet Lord Byron used to relax during the 1820s. It’s easy to see how he was inspired to write some of his most romantic works here.

Don’t miss Castello di Santa Margherita, a castle built in 1550 by the Republic of Genoa as a defense against pirate attacks. The main city square, Piazza Mazzini, is lined with colorful palaces just begging to be Instagrammed. Finally, find yourself seated a waterfront café with both glass of wine and menu in hand, as you watch fishermen unload their catch—and your meal—of the day.

You don’t need luck on your side to have an unforgettable time in Monte Carlo! Home to the legendary Grand Casino and the opulent Royal Palace, Monte Carlo lives up to its reputation in every way. Stroll among luxury yachts at Port Hercules and soak in sweeping Med views from The Rock—a towering outcrop the royals of Monaco call home.

Stroll along the harbor and marvel at the yachts, many of which dwarf the surrounding buildings. Join other jet setters on one of the fabulous beaches, some of which are clothing optional. Ooh, la la! For lunch, the old fishing quarter La Ponche has plenty of seafood restaurants serving the day’s freshest catches and refreshing rosés, a regional specialty.

2,600 years of history come to life in the magnificent port of Marseille. The Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée is filled to the brim with insight on the culture of this wonderful region and well worth a visit. From here, explore La Panier for souvenirs to remind you of your journey. Cap off your day with a glass of pastis—an alcoholic beverage that is a local favorite!

Visit église Saint Nazaire, a late 19th century Gothic Revival church, or Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Pitié, built in 1560. Stroll along the palm-lined harbor, where you’ll find rows of old Provençal wooden fishing boats, pointus, and if you’re lucky, some local fishermen selling the day’s catch. Or simply taste the freshest seafood in any number of Sanary restaurants in this charming and inviting town.

Spain’s Costa Brava, also known as the Wild Coast, is your breathtaking destination when you arrive in Palamos. Rugged, scenic, and lined with amazing beaches, Palamos is paradise on Earth! Art lovers will want to travel up the coast to Figueres, where they can visit the Salvador Dali museum. Inside, you’ll find his greatest works of art, as well as beloved pieces from his personal collection.

Barcelona is a cosmopolitan masterpiece. With a history rich in art and architecture, medieval, Gothic, and modern influences can be seen all over the city. Start at the waterfront and stroll up the shady, tree-lined Las Ramblas boulevard and discover some of the city’s best shopping and bustling cafes.
