Luxury Holidays in Greece

recognised as the land of myth & legend, With Miles upon miles of crystal blue waters, sun-drenched ruins, white-washed buildings and gorgeous cobbled streets, it's not hard to see why greece and her islands are a popular destination to holiday.

Luxury Greece holidays

From the oracle at Delphi to Mount Olympia where the Olympic Games were first played out more than two thousand years ago, and the mighty Parthenon sitting atop the Acropolis in the Greek capital Athens, the mainland is replete with classical treasures waiting for you to discover.

If your idea of a holiday is more relaxing on a beach than traipsing around the antiquities then Greece is your ideal destination. With as many as 6,000 islands, 200 of which are inhabited, ranging from Santorini to Kos and Crete to Corfu, Greece is renowned for its blue skies and sun-soaked beeches inviting you to take it easy. Hire a Greek villa for a week or longer, or go on a sailing trip around the Greek islands to really discover what the country has to offer.

Like in Italy, the heart of the country lies in its cuisine. Fortunately the Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest on the planet so there is no reason for not indulging. Go beyond the staples of feta and olives to discover the richness of Greek cuisine, and at the same time feel the warmth of the local hospitality. For one thing is for sure, you will never be alone for long on your Greek holidays.

Places to visit in Greece

Athens is like no other place on Earth, whether it is the wonderful climate, the excellent cuisine, or the amazing Acropolis there is more than enough to delight in the Greek capital before you venture off to the islands.

For culture lovers few countries can compete with Greece. From Delphi to Olympia on the mainland to Knosssos on the largest island Crete, there are temples everywhere just waiting for you to explore. Not that all the treasures date back to the Ancient Greeks, the wonderful caves near Meteora contain mesmerising monasteries built by Byzantine monks in the 14th Century.

With so many glorious islands it is hard to choose one to visit in Greece. So don’t restrict yourself. Go sailing in Greece or island hop in the Cyclades. Feel the water splash against your face or jump in and take a plunge in the delightful warm waters before enjoying some barbecued fish on the beach.

Rhodes Old Town is a wonderful place to get lost for a day or a lifetime. Meander along the old cobbled streets and imagine you are a Knight of Rhodes before retiring to a taverna.

Whether you charter your own yacht or go on an escorted sailing trip in Greece, simply relax and top up your Vitamin D with all that wonderful Mediterranean sun, passing the most amazing cultural temples along your way.

Greek Cuisine

Experience Greek cuisine whether it is in the local taverna or on a Greek cookery course, you will discover it to be both tasty and healthy. Cretan cuisine with its fresh artichokes, figs and virgin olive oil is not to be missed. But wherever you journey in Greece you are bound to have a culinary delight.

Greek Tours

There is a reason why Greece was an essential component on the Grand Tour. Retrace the steps of your forefathers through Athens, Delphi, Corinth and Mount Olympia to discover where democracy was founded and realise why western civilisation is so indebted to the Ancient Greeks.

Going on a classical tour through Greece might not have the instant gratification of the sun-soaked islands, but it will be a memory that will stay with you forever. And who is to say you have to choose between Ancient Greece and a beach holiday, part of the wonder of a holiday in Greece is that you can combine them both – even in the same day. Temple in the morning, beach in the afternoon, dine in the evening and party through to the early hours, a Greek holiday truly has it all.

Whichever of the plethora of Greek experiences you choose, you are sure to have an unforgettable time, whether it’s the sun, the sea, the fantastic cuisine, amazing culture or the warmth of the people that you remember most when you reluctantly return home.

Weather - when to Visit Greece

Below is the list of what it is like to travel to Greece by month. Our most viewed article, The Best Greek Islands To Visit In May And June gives a much more detailed breakdown of the islands to visit during these months. These islands are some of the hidden Greek treasures, away from the tourist traps and are perfect for an island hopping tour. Speak to our team if you would like to find out more.

January in Greece

Winter is not the best time to visit Greece, although you will encounter many a blue-skied day on the southern islands, especially Crete where the temperature is mild.

February in Greece

As winter starts to really bite, avoid the north of the country, unless you wish to gaze at snow-capped mountains or perhaps go skiing in Greece.

March in Greece

The approaching spring will see the temperatures start to rise although you still might encounter some rain. Easter in Greece sees an explosion of celebrations, especially in Patmos.

April in Greece

Although the weather can be unpredictable, April is a good month to visit Greece, with the spring flowers in bloom, and temperatures reaching 20C in Athens and the islands.

May in Greece

Perhaps the best month to visit Greece before the summer crowds descend. Crete and the islands of the Cyclades are at their best, although the waters might still be a tad cold.

June in Greece

By June the temperatures have started to soar and the rains have dried up. A great time to experience the islands and beaches of Greece.

July in Greece

Like June, July guarantees clear blue skies and glorious hot sun. This is when the islands of Samothráki and Thássos start to bloom.

August in Greece

The peak holiday season sees the islands start to fill up. Unless you are into partying, rent yourself an isolated Greek villa or sail around the Cyclades.

September in Greece

September is still a great month to visit Greece, as the hot sun starts to relent a little, this can be a good time to visits Athens and some of the antiquities on the mainland.

October in Greece

Although still hot across the country, in October the weather starts to become a bit more unpredictable. Crete is still extremely pleasant but expect the occasional storm.

November in Greece

The off-season sees places close and less ferries running so it is harder to travel around Greece. However, temperatures are still mild, and you will be able to escape the crowds.

December in Greece

December sees temperatures drop and the rains fall, but the approach of Christmas means there will be plenty of celebrations. Kala Christougenna as the Greek’s say Merry Christmas.
