When it snows in Bergen, the city is almost fairy-tale-like, with covered hills acting as a backdrop to the brightly coloured houses lining the famous harbour area of Bryggen Wharf. Generally, it tends to rain here more, but this doesn’t detract from the beauty of the city – which can be seen at its best advantage from the funicular railway, offering unrivalled views of the surrounding fjord from the top of Mount Fløyen. 

Due to its picturesque location, Flåm offers the very best of fjords and mountains. The cascading waterfalls have frozen over and become walls of ice, with the fjord Flåm sitting on a layer of ice, making it eerily silent. Perhaps take a ride on the Flamsbana Railway through no less than twenty hidden tunnels in snow covered hillsides and see the Kjossen Waterfall in its beautifully frozen state.

During the winter months, Stavanger will often be covered in a layer of snow, reaching down to the fjord’s edge. Its climate is said to be similar to that of Scotland, located across the sea, and so can often be wet in the winter. Nearby is the renowned Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) with Lysefjord lying below, where the waters are almost as deep as the mountains are high.
