Why we love this !

“I’ve just returned from Madeira! A place that had never even been on my ‘must go to list’ but oh wow, I was blown away with how amazing it was and it is now firmly on my ‘must return to’ list!

Firstly, I was surprised at how warm it was, the sun wasn’t shining all the time but the temperature was just perfect, warm enough to be swimming and sitting around the pool sipping cocktails but not hot enough to get burnt – perfect!  Madeira is a volcanic Island with black sand beaches and a very dramatic coastline which the hotels make the most of with purpose built swimming and diving platforms on the cliffs for sea swimming. Most famous for its fauna Madeira is stunningly beautiful, perfect for those interested in horticulture or indeed those who just enjoy gorgeous scenery.  Cycling has become a big thing over the past few years as has Dolphin and Whale watching and of course we mustn’t forget the famous Madeiran vineyards and wine tasting!

We stayed in the Reid’s Palace a Belmond Hotel which is steeped in history – Churchill stayed here in the day!  Reid’s has always been one of the hotels that the travel industry admires and is on most of our bucket lists and now I’ve been I can see why, the beautifully appointed rooms combined with a Michelin star restaurant and impeccable service make this a very special place to stay.  Afternoon tea on the terrace is an experience that attracts a lot of attention each day, you don’t have to be a resident to enjoy this but you do need to book early!

If you are looking for a hotel a little less traditional The Savoy Palace is stunning.  Contemporary in design it radiates chic elegance and is perfect for those looking for something a little more glitzy.  The roof top infinity Skypool is jaw-dropping with panoramic views of the Funchal seafront” ~ Karen
