Peru Touring Holidays

A South American country with the most amazing cultural attractions, natural beauty and wonderful cuisine, Peru is an intriguing travel destination that has it all.

Tailor Made & Escorted Tours to Peru

Well before the conquistadores arrived on the continent, Peru had a rich culture that even predated the Incas. Machu Picchu is rightfully regarded as one of the world’s wonders, but it is only one of many ancient Peru sites waiting for you to discover.

Beautiful Cuzco is so much more than the starting point for your journey to Machu Picchu, and another essential destination on your Peru touring holidays.

Add into the mix the perplexing Nazca Lines and you have enough ancient cultural attractions to fill your boots on your Peru holidays and that is even without mention the modern day capital Lima, and beautiful colonial Arequipa.

Travel in Peru is not just a case of ticking off the cultural sites. Its long coastline allows for the most beautiful beaches especially in the north around the town of Trujillo, as well as great surfing.

Peru has the most wonderful nature, as the country snakes its way up the Andes providing great hiking opportunities and glorious national parks, as well as the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world. At the borders with Bolivia lies the wonderful Lake Titicaca, where you can visit one of the famous floating islands.

Perhaps above all else is the irresistible Peruvian cuisine. Ceviche is now well established in restaurants around the world, but have you tried guinea pig? Lima is perhaps the country’s culinary as well as political capital. Here you can sample some of finest food in the world, or perhaps you could travel further sour to Pisco and try a sour cocktail for which the city is renowned.

Peru Touring highlights

Visit Machu Picchu

If you do nothing else on your Peru travels then ensure you visit Machu Picchu. Just remember to breathe when you are there, as the majestic views down to the canyon below can literally take your breath away. The more adventurous can trek for three or four days along the 43-kilometre long Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, arriving at its Sun Gate. The journey there is almost, but not quite, as spectacular as the treat that awaits you. Alternatively, you can take the Inca Rail train from Cuzco, and arrive in luxury. Whichever you choose, ensure that you arrive at Machu Picchu in the early morning, preferably before the crowds arrive, as the clouds can roll in during the afternoon ruining those amazing views.

Incredible National Parks

Even older than Machu Picchu, the Nazca Lines have been carved in the Peruvian dessert for millennia. You can either view these by air or walk amidst them. Either way you will be amazed by the knowledge of our ancient ancestors that led to their creation. Other ancient sites well worth exploring include the ancient citadel of Kuelap and Chan Chan – the largest pre-Colombian city in the Americas.

Trekking In Spectacular Nature

Despite its plethora of ancient historical sites, a key experience on your Peru touring holidays is appreciating the spectacular nature. Visit the Sacred Valley that links Cuzco and Machu Picchu, glory at the site of condors floating through the amazing Colca Canyon – deeper than the Grand Canyon – or venture into Manu National Park, Peru’s best-protected wildlife spot set in the Amazon jungle.

Stay at a jungle lodge in Tambopata National Reserve, and hopefully spot a jaguar or tapir, while listening to the most amazing birdsong. Alternatively, go trekking in the Cordillera Blanca, the second highest mountain range in the world, after the Himalayas, with 16 peaks at more than 6,000 metres.
