Introduction

This unique safari experience begins as you venture into the glorious Aberdares National Park, nestled in the Aberdare Highlands, part of the wider Great Rift Valley.

You will visit The Shaba National Reserve, taking in the scenic views of Mount Kenya along the way. The Shaba Game Lodge is located in a natural oasis on the reserve, offering serenity amidst wild and beautiful surroundings. Here you can view an abundance of wildlife including, Grevy’s zebra, Somali giraffes, Oryx antelopes and gerenuks. This open savanna, which is traversed by the Ewaso Nyiro River, is also home to hippos and crocodiles.
 
Descending into the Great Rift Valley, you will take in the views of the mountain enroute to Lake Naivasha. Here, you can take a boat ride on the lake, spotting a wide variety of birds. The resort is not only home to the resident giraffe, waterbuck and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos.
 
In the Masai Mara, famed for its vast numbers of plains game and the spectacular big cats, you will stay in a luxury camp, which offers an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting, and is close to the action during the annual wildebeest migration.

Itinerary

You will be met on arrival and taken to the local office where you can store any additional luggage before departing for the Aberdares (180 km). Arrive at the Aberdare Country Club for lunch before moving on to your next location, The Ark, where decks overlook a waterhole and salt lick, attracting a wide variety of wildlife.

Following breakfast, you will drive North across the equator, enroute to Shaba National Reserve (190km). Lunch will be taken at Shaba Game Lodge, followed by an afternoon game drive, before returning to the lodge where you can enjoy dinner looking out onto the Ewaso Nyiro river.

Begin with morning and late afternoon game drives, where you can of spot an abundance of wildlife including, Grevy’s zebra, Somali giraffes, Oryx antelopes and gerenuks. This open savanna, which is traversed by the Ewaso Nyiro River, is also home to the hippos and crocodiles.

After breakfast you will travel back to the Aberdares National Park, arriving at the Aberdare County club in time for lunch (180km). During the afternoon, you will take in the Solio Game Reserve. This wildlife conservancy plays a major role in the protection of black rhinos.

After breakfast, descend into the Great Rift Valley, taking in the views of the mountain enroute to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (200km). Lunch is followed by a boat ride on the lake, spotting a variety of birds. the resort is not only home to our resident giraffe, waterbuck and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos.

Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve (320 km). Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. The spectacular annual migration attracts millions of animals including over 1 million wildebeest and 300,000 zebras passing through Masai Mara from July to October each year. Sarova Mara Game Camp is ideally located in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Alternatively, take an early morning balloon flight over the Mara followed by a ‘bubbly’ bush breakfast (optional extra). After lunch, relax before a late afternoon game drive.

After breakfast, return to Nairobi by road (300 km), or fly from the Masai Mara to Nairobi: morning flight (price on request); lunch in the Masai Mara and afternoon flight (price on request).
