Cheetah Safari & Beach

A beautiful introduction to Kenya...

Experience the wild side

Start off your holiday with a safari ideally suited to leave you with plenty of time to enjoy the Mombasa beach, while offering you the best chance to see two very different aspects of Kenya.
First stop is at Lake Naivasha, one of the Rift Valley Lakes with superb bird life, followed by the magnificent Masai Mara where the wildlife is second to none.

After your safari you will relax on a sun-kissed brilliant white sandy beach fringed by palm trees in Mombasa, as you feel the gentle sea-breeze in your hair.

All the things you need to know

Fly to Nairobi from the UK. Welcome to Kenya. Upon arrival in Nairobi, a local representative will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your comfortable hotel. The rest of the day is free to meet your group and relax ahead of your safari adventure. Overnight at Sarova Stanley

After breakfast, begin the 7-hour drive to Samburu. Stop for lunch en route at the Trout Tree Restaurant, a unique dining venue set inside and around a giant fig tree. Overnight at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge (or similar)

Today is the real start of your African wildlife experience, with two group game drives into the Samburu reserve. These will take place in the morning and afternoon, leaving the hot middle of the day free for relaxation. Lesser visited than its more southerly neighbours, this relatively small reserve’s arid landscape is home to ‘dry country’ animals rarely found outside the park. Samburu is famous for its own rare species known as the ‘special five’, namely the Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, and Beisa Oryx. Spotting one of these highly unusual creatures is a truly memorable experience. Overnight at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge (or similar).

Leaving Samburu this morning, drive south for around 5-hours to the Aberdare Mountain Range. On arrival, check in at the Aberdare Country Club before transferring to its unique sister property, The Ark, which will be your viewing perch for the night. Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, The Ark’s design is based on Noah’s Ark. It overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, attracting wildlife day and night. Four viewing decks with balconies allow up-close wildlife viewing without even leaving your accommodation. There’s also a ground-level photo hide and an on-call viewing service to ensure that you don’t miss a thing. The national park was created in 1950 to protect the forested slopes of the ancient Aberdare Range, with wildlife ranging from elephant and lion, to black and white Colobus monkeys, and the beautiful but lesser-sighted bongo – a horned antelope with distinctive white stripes. Overnight at The Ark (or similar).

After breakfast, return to Aberdares Country Club and then depart for Lake Nakuru, one of the vast Great Rift Valley lakes. After lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, head out on an afternoon game drive into the Lake Nakuru National Park, a haven for bird lovers with over 400 species. The parks habitat also offers a fantastic opportunity of spotting lion, leopard, Rothschild giraffe, and herds of rare white rhino. Overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge (or similar).

Depart early today for a 6-hour drive to the Maasai Mara, a spectacular region of rolling plains and open savannah that boasts quintessential African scenery and wildlife viewing. After enjoying lunch at your lodge, head out on an afternoon game drive in search of the Big Five, big cats, and a whole host of other wildlife. You’ll return to camp in time for an excellent dinner, then spend the evening relaxing around the roaring camp fire with your fellow group members. With splendid views across the Mara plains, Sarova Mara Game Camp offers the classic safari experience with the comfort of a hotel-style residence. Overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp (or similar).

Today there’s the opportunity to take a thrilling optional hot-air balloon safari to gain a whole new perspective of the Maasai Mara. Wake early and watch as the balloon is prepared, then take flight and drift upwards as the sun rises. The bright pink-orange haze is visible for miles across the vast savannah, as wildlife roam below you. The memorable flight is followed by an impressive Champagne breakfast that will be set up as your balloon comes in to land. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is our most highly recommended optional experience in Kenya. The rest of the day is spent on morning and afternoon game drives into the heart of this wildlife-rich reserve – a fitting end to an exciting safari. Overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp (or similar).

Leave the Mara after breakfast and drive for 6-hours to Nairobi, arriving in time for lunch.

  • Safari Game Drives 4×4

  • Pinewood Resort 30 Mins Massage Per Person Per stay

  • International flights with Kenya Airways from Heathrow

  • Selected food

  • Wear neutral colours: Khaki, light brown, green, and tan. White clothes will show up with dust and dirt. Coloured clothing such as red makes you very conspicuous to the wildlife, especially on a walking safari.
  • Dress casually: Safari only requires casual clothing, light and flexible that will make you comfortable during game drives
  • Cover at night: Long sleeves and pants will help you stay warm and avoid mosquito bites, heavy socks, mavins, scarfs, and warm jackets
  • Be comfortable: Clothing should consist of non-synthetic material. Cotton is ideal.
  • Use the laundry service: Most camps/lodges offer laundry service but will not launder undergarments. Choose clothing that is easily laundered.
  • Dress in layers: Zip-off sleeves and lots of pockets are a plus. Bring a jacket and scarf along on game drives as temperatures drop quickly once the sun goes down in the evening.
  • Check your hat: Hats must do three things well to be effective:
    • Provide complete sun protection – especially for the back of your neck
    • Gas permeable so the heat generated from your head can escape
    • Be water-absorbent on the inside and waterproof on the outside, in order to absorb sweat and cover you if you get caught in the rain
  • Don’t over-pack: Choose lightweight clothing options whenever possible since packing space is at a premium.
