Where to go on holiday in November

With the start of the dry season, November is a great time to see whale sharks and manta rays in the Maldives or if you’re after something closer to home, November is a great month to enjoy the Canary Islands without the tourists, while the dark winter nights make ideal conditions for viewing the Northern Lights in Finland or Norway.

November is a great time to see the Northern Lights due to the dark winter nights.

Finland
The Muotka Wilderness Lodge set in a secluded snow-laden winter wonderland in Finland on the edge of the pristine Urho-Kekkonen National Park guarantees minimal light pollution, increasing your potential for seeing the Northern Lights, simply by stepping outside the lodge’s front door. You can be as active as you choose in this totally relaxing stress-free environment.

You can also travel to Norway from Dover on an Astronomy and Northern Lights Expedition Cruise where you will learn more about the Northern Lights, the Arctic sky and the solar system in lectures on board from renowned astronomer, Dr John Mason exploring the country’s amazing coastline in winter as well as visit the Northern Lights Planetarium in Tromsø.

Canary Islands

November is a great month to enjoy the Canary Islands without the tourists or the expensive hotel rates. Even though summer has passed, the islands still offer beach weather.

At this time of year, we recommend you stay on Gran Canaria or Tenerife. In Gran Canaria, try the quiet resort of Puerto de Mogán, a picturesque fishing village and scenic marina on the southwest coast which has an abundance of restaurants.

In Tenerife, try the Meliá Jardines del Teide within the Costa Adeje Resort, a great family resort with several large pool areas including one just for kids, offering a variety of entertainment programs for both children and adults, this upscale hotel is close to Playa del Duque beach and only a couple of miles from Aqualand water park with Golf Costa Adeje just 10 minutes away.

Maldives

Temperature: 30°C high; 25°C low

Flight time from UK: Around 12 hours 30 minutes

November marks the start of the dry season in the Maldives with short showers in the afternoons and otherwise bright, sunny days with the water visibility clearing, it’s a great time to see whale sharks and manta rays.

We recommend the 5-star One&Only Reethi Rah. A stunning resort which sets the benchmark for all resorts in the Maldives. World-class dining, pampering spa treatments and kayaking adventures across the glittering seas are just a few of the experiences you can enjoy here including a kids’ club, overwater obstacle course and climbing wall keep young guests entertained.
