Starting 31 July 2024, all passengers departing from any Indian airport must have a barcoded ticket or boarding pass. This is a new rule implemented by the Indian government to improve airport security and efficiency.

Key points:

  • Barcoded ticket or boarding pass is mandatory: You must have a ticket or boarding pass with a barcode to enter the departure terminal.
  • Digi Yatra is an alternative: Alternatively, you can use Digi Yatra, a biometric-based travel process, to bypass the barcode requirement.
  • No access without verification: Airport security will verify the authenticity of the travel document and the passenger before allowing entry to the departure terminal.

What should you do?

  • Ensure your ticket or boarding pass has a barcode: You should check to confirm that your ticket or boarding pass has a barcode.
  • Consider using Digi Yatra: if you are travelling domestically, you may be able to use Digi Yatra for a smoother travel experience.
  • Arrive at the airport early: To avoid delays, it’s recommended that your clients arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare.

In essence, this means that all passengers travelling from India must be prepared with a barcoded ticket or boarding pass to avoid any issues at the airport.
